Holiday Weddings

In the spirit of giving thanks, we are grateful to our clients and friends for making 2012 such a great year. We hope you had a magnificent Thanksgiving spent with loved ones.

During the holiday season, choosing a wedding date is a frequent topic among the newly engaged and their families. When is the best time to have your wedding? Is it best to utilize a holiday so guests can extend their stay or not have to take time off work to attend the festivities? Or have people already made plans or have traditions on holidays that would deter them from attending the wedding?

Unfortunately, there is no right or wrong answer to this question. As we always say, you know your guests the best and may be able to gauge their preference. There are always going to be invitees that have previous holiday engagements. However, if you do decide on a wedding on or around a holiday, we suggest the following:

  • If you plan to have a destination wedding, think about utilizing a holiday that has a three-day weekend, like Memorial Day or Labor Day. This allows more time for travel, and guests can tack on an additional day or two of vacation if they please.
  • If you want to keep your guest list small, aim for a big holiday. At this moment, I have a friend who was married on Thanksgiving day in Cancun at a $500.00/guest nightly inclusive resort. I love and adore her, but I could not make it, and most of our friends were not able to splurge either (and that was okay with her).
  • A Christmas season wedding can often cut decor needs. Many venues dress up their event spaces for the holiday season. This means you could allocate more of your budget to another area of your wedding.
  • A New Year's Eve wedding is always a wonderful affair. Not only is this a holiday that many spend with friends, but you have planned a party to celebrate your love and the new year. How romantic is it to begin the new year as a married couple?

    With engagement season right around the corner, many couples will be scouring the calendar in the next several months to set the right date. You may have a special date for the two of you or may want a pretty time of year, but do not count out holidays. It could be the perfect time to celebrate, not to mention have a friendly reminder of your anniversary!
